Focus, where is yours?

Focus is a tool that works like a double edge sword.  What I mean by that is it will work on your behalf for good or can work against you.  The definition of focus is the center of interest or activity “this generation has made the environment a focus of attention” center, focal point, center of attention, hub, pivot, heart, core, cornerstone.  Focus is becoming harder and harder to do for us today.  Our attention is continually assailed with advertisement, social media, and too many activities in our lives. We find ourselves so scattered and overwhelmed at times we wonder if life will ever return to some sense of normality.

Lately I have been studying the effects of naturally occurring laws such as gravity, law of inertia, law of vibration and I believe focus can be categorized into one of these principals of the earth we live on.  Think about being in a dark room and lighting one candle. You can see the candle clearly in the dark but the light is spread out in so many different directions unless you hold the candle close to something you can’t see very well with the light of just one candle, however: if you concentrate the light of the candle into one focused spot such as a flashlight would do now the light cuts through the darkness and lights up whatever it is your focusing on and you can see that object.  I think its interesting to note to that will be the only object in the room that you can see, that doesn’t mean there are not other objects in the room naturally but the focus of the light and your attention focused in one spot will illuminate the one thing that your looking at and allow you to see clearly what it is.

So could it be in this fast pace world that we live if we could focus our attention on only one thing at a time we would be much more effective in dealing with that one thing than we are when we allow our attention to be scattered around on everything.  I believe that the lack of focus could possibly be the number one cause in us feeling overwhelmed, overworked, exhausted.  I also find it interesting that the best way to deal with these naturally occurring principals is to just become aware that they exist. When you become enlightened to the fact that their at work whether you recognize them or not, suddenly that in itself  will give you the answer to how to deal with it.  I mentioned earlier that focus can work against you just as well as it can work for you.

Remember when you were a small child learning to ride a bicycle and you were struggling to keep it upright and if you could keep it up and moving it tended to stay up, however, objects in your path perhaps your dads car would draw your focus attention and the harder you tried on focusing on not hitting it the more focused you become on the car and the next thing you find yourself explaining to your dad the dent or scratch down his car depending on how fast you were going.  That is an example of how focus can work against you it’s not wrong or right it just is, it’s not wrong or right that gravity pulls objects downward it just is.  Likewise whatever you focus your attention on will be dealt with and the things that are vying for your attention will be placed on the back burner until you can line your focus upon one those.

I believe if a person will take one thing to completion at a time it will put those things to rest so to speak so that you can clear your slate and breath.  Not easy to do but it’s also not hard to do.  The thing that is necessary here is simply to become aware that your focus has been allowed to get scattered. It’s impossible to shoot a gun at in two directions at the same time and if you never learn the art of mastering your focus, hitting the target will be a random experience.  But becoming a master of focus bulls eyeing the target will be a more regularly occurring feet.
